@rmetoyer I mean he didn't know the ways of the south. You can't call someone dumb if they aren't even aware of the circumstances (and they aren't unaware deliberately). But we're on the same page. It was a terrible, horrific thing:(.

@ilinaeternity-- look we can argue forever about whether or not it was a dumb thing to do. I say it was dumb because he was warned-- and because I raised two kids who did dumb things all the time-- when they became teenagers. Kids do dumb things-- like showing off to each other. But we agree on everything else entirely-- he was innocent of doing anything wrong! He didn't understand or believe that he could be killed for that whistle.The real villains were his hateful killers!!

@Miss407-- Whistling at a white woman in Mississippi in 1955 was a DUMB thing for a black teenager to do, especially since Emmett was warned before he left Chicago. We AGREE he did NOTHING wrong, but he forgot where he was. He was murdered by racists who would have killed him for not getting off of the sidewalk to let them pass and they thought they had the right to kill him! That was the evil of Mississippi and Emmett's murder exposed that hatred for the whole world to see.

@rmetoyer Sorry, but what Emmett Till did WAS NOT dumb. How in the world could you even say something like that??? What those racist bigots did was dumb. Who in the world beats a 14-year-old child to death, beyond recognition, then shoots him, weighs his body down and dumps it in a river?? Emmett Till did NOTHING wrong.
