  • I don't have this one anymore, it suffered a fall that would have damaged most MP3 players so don't go blaming the "obsolete fragile mechanics" because the actual CD mechanism was fine, it was the volume button and the switch that opens the lid. I now have a similar model which is white, and has a built in radio (which I hardly use :)

  • How do I play MP3 files on this Walkman? Will burning them on a regular CD and then popping it in work?

  • @MGSROCKS1 This walkman cannot play MP3 files. Until recently sony had another model that cost about $50, it had the screen and buttons all on the lid, and I believe it had MP3 capabilities. Sadly, sony has discontinued that model and now only offers this one, a basic white one, and another that looks the same but has a radio built in.

  • @dickcheney6 Oh wow thanks for the clarification. How do you personally listen to your music in this particular Walkman? What format should I put my music flies in and what type of CDs (CD-RW or CD-R) should I put them on? I really appreciate the help man

  • @MGSROCKS1 I have used sony and maxxell in the past. I've never used CD-RW's because CD-R's are cheap enough and it's not as though they contain lead or anything. However, I'm pretty sure that Sony and Maxxell CD-RW's are just as good as their other products.

I actually still have a tape recorder so I use that when I need something re-usable, or when I just have like 3 songs I want to bring along. I tend to buy "real" CDs unless I already have half the songs on it on the computer.

  • Nice discman there, does it have a dedicated line-out option?

  • I don't see where a "dedicated line out" would be useful. Most stereo systems should have some method of connecting to a 3.5mm stereo jack, which on most stereos is labeled "line in". If by that you mean a 2-wire connection, then no, it doesn't have that. Pretty much the only things I've seen that have that are "home" CD or DVD players. I don't know of any walkmen of any format that have a 2-wire connection like that.

  • It's not sound quality that I'm after, it's that CDs are not quite as complex and more universal. Cd players don't crash, never need to be reformatted (not that you need to do it THAT MUCH with an MP3 walkman) almost every CD player takes AA batteries (I have rechargeables) as opposed to a built in battery on (the majority of) MP3 players which, once it ceases holding a charge, requires taking the walkman apart just to replace it! Why not just have a COVER like a cell phone to replace it???

  • I have to say all iPODS are crap. Tiny sound quality and all the rest of it. Sony walkman is the one, i have the x series, never heard sound like it but then again Sony has a reputation for high end sound quality so you know.
