Faryl sings the Barcarolle by Offenbach and Ave Maria by Gounot at the 2011 Llangollen Eisteddfod. At the start there is short shot of her after her win at the eisteddfod when she was 10 years old. She also greets the audience in Welsh.

  • it isn't what she sings - it is the way she sings it.

  • I love her voice, it is absolutely beautiful but I think she needs to pay more attention to her languages. I have sung this song and there are several mistakes in the pronunciation.

  • @mike04535 As a side note, I NEVER said I have sung in those languages perfectly. Don't make up words that were never there to begin with.

  • @mike04535 Way to not read what I said. Actually, on the COMPLETE contrary, I was saying that it's impossible for someone to have everything down perfect when it's not their native language. It can be overcome, but I didn't say perfected. As I said, when you're not a native French speaker, for instants, it can be challenging as you don't have the French accent, and you're not used to the diction of the language resulting in imperfection.

  • @WorldPhoenix1 You have not sung in those languages with perfect diction, pronunciation and accent. I have yet to hear an opera singer who is not a native english speaker sing in english with perfect pronunciation and accent. It is impossible. So why would anyone, like you, with a secondary knowledge of foreign languages expect a 15 year old schoolgirl to be able to sing in a foreign language like a native?

  • @mike04535 The two of you, HUSH!

French IS more difficult to sing due to the slurs and harsh "r" that they use, but if trained properly it can be overcome. Even more so if you're not French to begin with (accents and all). I've sung in English, Italian, Spanish, French and German - the latter two being the hardest to sing due to the way words are pronounced.

My experience? Being classically trained in voice, as well as being a native English and secondary French speaker.

  • @webloguitaFirst of all don't try to teach granny how to suck eggs. I have probably been round the proverbial block many more times than you have. You entered this discussion not with a musical comment but with a cutting smart arse remark about Faryl's french. Do you expect that she should spend her entire school career learning french so that she can sing one bloody song in it to your satisfaction? You are not a native english nor french speaker so I pay little heed to your comments

  • First of all I am not dutch, and for your information, all professional singers must have a 'decent' pronunciation in the languages they perform, how could people otherwise understand what they sing? It's not only music, it's words! Any professional singer must take language lessons, not only a one-off for a recording. But I did not mean to offend or something like that, I just wrote my opinion, why otherwise you allow people to leave a comment? But you took it personally! Are you family of her?
