From the Henry Beston Society (www.henrybeston.org):
Longtime Cape Cod radio newsman Bob Seay was one of the people on hand at Coast Guard Beach in Eastham, Mass. on Cape Cod on Feb. 6-7, 1978, when the famous storm known as the "Blizzard of '78" barreled across Cape Cod.
Seay was there when Henry Beston's Outermost House, along with several other beach cottages, were swept off their foundations and into the marsh, then out to sea. In this video, Seay talks about how a few young people were also victimized by the storm when they drove their Volkswagen Beetle down to the beach and found themselves caught up in the raging tide. What happened after that is quite amazing.
More of the interview with Seay, as told to Don Wilding of the Henry Beston Society, will be part of a special talk to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the storm at 2:45 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 16, 2008 at the Cape Cod National Seashore's Salt Pond Visitors Center in Eastham, Mass.
