Following the three initial protests against BART called by Anonymous, No Justice No Bart, a group that's been protesting the BART Police since shortly after the death of Oscar Grant, called for a demonstration inside Powell Station.

Although the entire protest took place outside the fare gates, which is the "free speech zone" according to BART, a group of about 40 people was corralled by the police. Among those detained included numerous journalists, several of whom were attending the demonstration with their SFSU professor for a class assignment.

  • Fantastic stuff! Even though I don't live in America, the actions of the BART police have certainly opened my eyes to how much power these "public safety" guardians wield. I hope it ends in a good place, and hope Sydney never employs free-range authority figures in our stations.

  • Excellent representation

  • lol awesome

  • awesome

  • "Those of you who have legitimate media credentials with you..." Free press much Piggy?

  • so what exactly did that guy do to get arrested?? as far as i saw he did fuck all or did i miss it?

  • That is really scary to think that some rag-tag public transportation security has this much power.

  • our protest outside of it.

  • so who wants to shut down a school

  • to shaman145, what happens when some want to hold a peaceful deomonstration, no matter how nice you say the police are that is irrelevant,

their presence is one of concern to all who wish to think for themselves, so be a good sheep, and settle for the life you lead, and those who fight to protect freedom of speech, well go ahead and bag those custodians, but we as the international community to have been on many trips to the usa know you need them.your perception of your freedom is not real.

  • The people responsible for these protests are self-rightious douchebags who make little to no difference with their efforts, and succeed in doing nothing but halting production and screwing people's commutes to and from work.

If you don't live in SF, don't let this bullshit fool you. The police are actually very nice, if you don't antagonize them.

    ...Just like people, imagine that.
