Kayarang is the most popular Korean traditional pop duo, today. Kayarang stands for Kayageum, Yerang, and Sarang. So, it means that the duo has become one with Kayageum, one of the most well-known Korean traditional instrument. But we should call the duo 'Gayarang' not 'Kayarang' because Koreans call the instrument 'Gayageum' not 'Kayageum' The twins were born together in September, 1980. One's name is Yerang, Lee and another one's name is Sarang, Lee. They were infatuated with the instrument and started learning how to play that from their mother whose name is Young Sook, Byun when they were teenagers. Especially, Yerang was talented as much as that she was nominated for artist of the year twice in Kayageum division by formal presidents of Korea. But one day, the twins found that this genre was still farfetched for many people due to its boring, conservative, and unpopular characteristic. As a dream of theirs, it made them want to put interesting words together, rhyme, and have melodied with them in 2007. The twins debuted with the first album 'Suri Suri Masuri' in April, 2008. The title means that a woman is looking forward to getting involved in a man who will love only herself, so she is incanting with the words infront of Aladdin Lamp. Thanks to the song and its lyrcs, the duo could draw thousands people mostly from Korea, Japan, China, and MIddle East.
