This is the twenty-seventh part of my Pokemon Colosseum speedrun, and it covers the second visit to the Snagem Hideout. Contrary to the first part, this segment is a lot longer and more challenging, and there is a lot involved in it. There are 7 snags, 9 battles, and the most difficult being the rematch with Gonzap

Snagem Head Gonzap: This battle is difficult because of several factors - Intimidate on two of his Pokemon, making Earthquake essentially useless, and his tendency to raise his attack stats before attacking with heavy-hitting moves like Hyper Beam, all from Pokemon who have naturally high Attack stats anyway.

I lead off with a Blizzard and hit both opponents. Skarmory enters Hyper Mode. Not wanting to take the risk the second time, I switch to Surf to finish off Granbull and weaken Breloom for Skarmory to finish off. I get a lucky miss from Breloom's Sky Uppercut. This brings out Crawdaunt and Armaldo. Armaldo falls to Hydro Pump, and Crawdaunt gets an X-Attack in the process. Next out is Machamp. I go for a Surf to weaken both opponents, while Crawdaunt uses Hyper Beam on Feraligatr, and Machamp Bulks Up.

Next move is to Hydro Pump on Machamp, but I miss! I can afford to ignore Crawdaunt for a turn while the Hyper Beam recharges, so I aim to get rid of Machamp ASAP, which I accomplish in the next turn thanks to Absol. This leaves the biggest problem of using Feraligatr - Gyarados. This Gyarados also has Dragon Dance, making it a difficult beast to face - +1 Attack Hyper Beam can almost KO Feraligatr from full health, and DD makes it faster as well to boot. This means I have to use my partners to stop it from Dragon Dancing, encouraging the AI to stick with Earthquake instead. Thankfully the last few moves finish it off before that happens.

Overall, this battle could have gone better, but it comes at the end of a long segment and is a difficult battle at best anyway. I pick up the 3 Rare Candies (yeah!) and D-Disk, this allows me to now enter the Deep Colosseum. If I had gone the other way through the Hideout I would run into the staircase quartet again, forcing me into two battles, so I head back to the entrance:

Cipher Peon Kloak: If you remember, she once held the Shadow Ledian. Anyway this battle is fairly straightforward - just ride the waves, dude! Two Surfs can take out her Volbeat and Illumise, and a single Surf is all that is needed for Ariados. From this point onwards, I dont need to worry about PP any more - every battle in the Deep Colosseum gives you a free heal in between, and if you notice I also got a free heal after beating Gonzap.

Total snags: 44/48

  • Are all of his pokemon lvl 64 cuz Nintendo likes that number? Or is it a coincidence?

  • Wow. That really WASN'T a battle for Earthquakes. Bulk Up, Intimidate, and a huge Gyarados. Either way, nice work beating it all.
