Speaker: Brian Kennish Founder of Disconnect

What companies and organizations are collecting our web-browsing activity? How complete is their data? Do they have personally-identifiable information? What do they do with the data?

The speaker, an ex--Google and DoubleClick engineer, will answer these questions by detailing the research he did for The Wall Street Journal (http://j.mp/tttwsj) and CNN (http://j.mp/tttcnn), talking about the crawler he built to collect reverse-tracking data, and launching a tool you can use to do your own research.

By far one of the best and most interesting videos. Really shows you have Engineers like Mark Z took the net, code and understood what businesses really wanted. Connecting a name to your browsing history, and calling it something cool like social networking. There is always the front end of the computer world and the back end, not often do you have the privelage of understanding both!!

I think you missed the point. You can use that stuff without being tracked. I mean most of you guys downloaded disconnect but I assume you still use Google don't you?

BTW. I don't use that social media bullshit.

It's fit my demand. If U need advertised you can turn it on any time.

But I quite agree that our data should protected before gathering without permission become the standard.

The guy who "showed up" at doubleclick (evil), then went to go work for google (not quite as evil), suddenly becomes benevolent, and makes a browser addon. Likely?

I like the idea of using this tool for profit. It's like people asking survey questions for a chance to win some raffle prize. Forget the raffle, pay me what my data is worth or I'll keep the data to myself.
