Funchal

City of Funchal, capital of Madeira Island..Funchal is going to be 500 years old this year (2008). The Madeira Island were discovered by the Portuguese in 1419 and Funchal became its capital in 1508.

We dropped by here for a day from a cruise ship the week before Christmas,2011. It was such a delight, the weather was warm and the people were friendly. We went on the cable car up to the Gardens at Monte, the views were absolutely amazing!!. Had a fantastic three course meal near the harbor with a glass of wine for only 12 euros. This lovely place really made an impression on us and we will definitely come back here

Thinking of hol in Funchal apr/may 2011, can anybody tell me if there is still much evidence of the damage caused by the terrible floods they had in feb 2010?
