In its recent activity, ESA's Directorate of Human Spaceflight brought to reality advanced ideas and projects, such as its contribution to the realisation of the International Space Station (ISS), the Columbus laboratory, the ATV, and all the other microgravity and science research platforms.

The programmes for the future are as exciting and ambitious, including the Advanced Reentry Vehicle (ARV) and a Lunar Lander, to keep Europe's key role in the international space research and exploration.

The European Space Agency (ESA) is Europes gateway to space. Its mission is to shape the development of Europes space capability and ensure that investment in space continues to deliver benefits to the citizens of Europe and the world.

As an American, I can only hope that we continue space persuits Together with the ESU and other space agencies. The ISS is the most important structure in orbit and would not have been possible on our own.
