"I'm sorry," I said to David as I walked away without my drink. I looked over at Demi and shook my head at her. She nodded her head understanding. I walked out of the backyard to the front and went over to my car. I got inside and practically started banging my head against the steering wheel. Why was I feeling this way? Why do I even care about Nick?
I started up the car and drove home. Mom was sitting on the kitchen island stools and she had a mug of hot chocolate in her hand. She saw me walk through and smiled. "You're back early from the party."
"Yep," I said. I grabbed a mug and poured myself some hot chocolate. "Wasn't in the party mood."
"What's going on, sweetie?" she asked. I shrugged. "Whatever is bothering you, you should fix it. You shouldn't sit around hoping it gets better because no one knows what you want. You have to go and get it for yourself. Don't be upset." I nodded.
A week later, I was packing my suitcases in the trunk of my car. Demi was in tears as she watched me getting ready to leave for another semester at school. "Why do we have to go to different schools?" she cried, hugging me.
"Because you weren't smart enough for my school," I said. She laughed, punching me. I giggled. "I'm kidding. It's ok, I'll be coming over again in less than a month."
"Make sure you bring that Nick kid with you," she said, smirking at me.
I glared at her as I hugged my mom and dad. I got into my car and waved to them as I drove down the street. It took me about four hours to drive back to Boston. I stopped about two or three times to grab some food and pee. When I got there, Taylor was already in our apartment. "Hey," she screamed, hugging me. "How are you?"
"I'm good. How are you?" I asked hugging her back. "You look gorgeous."
"Thank you, as do you. And I'm good. Just got here like two hours ago."
"Place looks the same as we left it," I laughed. I grabbed a few of my bags and went into my room. I turned on the light and my eyes landed on the red roses that Nick gave me a few weeks ago. They were wilting and I remember when I had gotten them. I took them to my room and just left them there. I didn't put it in a vase or anything. How could I have done that?

School started and I had absolutely no classes with Nick. But he was always on my mind. I continued to isolate myself and I had no idea why. Taylor didn't really say much about it. She had a lot of hard classes and was isolating herself in her room as well. I didn't have that excuse. I had to see Nick and just talk to him. I couldn't take this anymore. This was so hard. I don't even know why I had to talk to him. I know I just needed to. But I never saw him on campus or anything. I wonder where he was. I knew where his house was. I could go over right now and talk to him. But with what right? I broke his heart. His friends will probably throw spitballs at me or something.
I was preparing dinner one night when Taylor walked out of her room. She looked like a zombie with her tired blue eyes which has purple bags underneath. She wasn't wearing makeup and her hair was tied up in a bun. "I'm exhausted," Taylor said sitting down on a chair.
"Dinner is almost done. Maybe after you eat, you'll get some energy," I said to her. She shrugged.
"How are you doing? Sorry I'm so MIA lately. School is eating me alive."
"I'm okay. Just you know...doing nothing."
"Have you talked to Nick?" she asked. I looked at her confused. "I know this is what you're upset about, Selena. You're one of my closest friends. And I think I know you by now. You've fallen for him and you're upset that you let him go."
"I don't...have feelings for Nick," I said, defending myself. Taylor cocked an eyebrow and laughed softly. "Why do you even say that?"
"Selena, don't lie to me and most importantly...don't lie to yourself. I have seen you break so many guys' hearts but I've never seen you be this down about it. I've never seen you care this much. You've been hung up on since you've come back and that gives me the idea that you've been hung up on him all through break as well. If you keep denying it then you'll continue to be upset about it. You want him back so get him back."
"He won't talk to me anymore," I said dropping the spoon from my hand and covering my face as the tears pooled out. I don't like crying. It just makes me feel so weak. And I still remember the last time I cried over a guy. I had promised myself that it would be the last time I ever did. But I couldn't help it. Taylor walked over to me and put her arms around me.
"Of course he'll talk to you," she said.
"No, he won't. I called him so many times after I broke up with him and when he finally answered he was so mean. And I don't even blame him. He doesn't want to talk to me anymore. He's over me and he hates me."
