This is an excerpt from a score run of a manic shoot-em-up DoDonPachi Campaign Version (aka. Blue ROM) made by Cave. This version of the game has been awarded as a prize to score competitors, including SOF-WTN who is the current WR score holder for normal version of DoDonPachi.

This is his best publicly available Hibachi fight on this this edition of the game. This Hibachi is noticeably harder, to say the least — one of the hardest TLBs Cave has made so far. WTN dies twice and bombs 13 times to survive, which should give you a rough idea on how big an asshole Hibachi is in this game.

Even Dai-Ou-Jou version looks tamer, in my opinion. :)

The video fragment is taken from SOF-WTN's set of two complete score runs (available on super-play.co.uk), cropped, and processed for better visibility.

  • Is there even a MAME version of this ROM? The more I think about it, the crazier it seems that less than 5 people have ever played the Blue ROM. I guess that makes it all the more valued and sought after!

  • There is no MAME version (yet).

However, as Cave has brought the PCB to a number of fests and meetups, way more than five people actually played it.

  • I'd like to see the people who brag about their Prestige in Call of Duty 4 come and play this and see how badly they get crushed

  • this may sound strange... but do you ever get like a strange euphoric sensation every time you play or watch games like this played? it isn't like happiness just like this sense of awe or wonder...

    or is it just me?

  • This is painful to watch knowing that you're never gonna play it in your lifetime.

  • @CrescentWolf879

    I love your logic! :D

  • Fun fact: all iterations of Hibachi have stacked over the years. You will notice that DaiFukkatsu's version has this attack, portions of DaiOuJou's true final boss attacks (notably the last one) and adds the 360-degree laser wall to the mix. Essentially CAVE has upgraded the same template over and over again.

  • @Akrilloth ill look that up.... I have nightmares about mushihimesama... you see, I went on holidays to Japan and happened to go to an arcade... I roughly lost $30 in continues

  • @Akrilloth : hahaha, you're right ^^.

  • @TheCreepyChuwnLi Actually, they have a problem with BUGS, not hornets alone.

  • @megabobu i second that, but what about zatzuya?

  • Damn, as if i was not afraid of wasps enough already.

  • Cave team seems to have a problem with hornets.

Oops, didn't realize you were responding to an earlier comment.

I meant that the regular DDP isn't as hard as DDP CV (like I said above). The fact that DDP is still hard by itself has nothing to do with that statement. However as far as shmups go, DDP 1-ALL is still on the easy side of the spectrum. It's roughly comparable to, say, Touhou Lunatic in terms of survival difficulty if you don't deathbomb in the latter. Playing for score makes it a lot different, of course.
