Procida is an island in the Bay of Naples.
It is less than 4 km². The Terra Murata hill is the highest point (91 m).
Several writers have set their novels in Procida: Graziella by Alphonse de Lamartine, L'isola di Arturo (1957) by Elsa Morante.
Procida was a film set for Il Postino (The Postman) and The Talented Mr. Ripley.
In Il Postino, we find Pablo Neruda, the Chilean poet, living in exile on Procida. Neruda gets lots of mail. The son of a poor fisherman is hired as an extra postman (Il Postino). Il Postino delivers Neruda's mail. The postman befriends Neruda and learns to love poetry. When the postman falls in love with a beautiful waitress, he needs Neruda's help and guidance.
Geologically, Procida was created by the eruption of four volcanoes, now dormant and submerged.
