Disclaimer: Even though I try to be as accurate as possible by watching Dave closely when I see him live or watch a video, there is still plenty of room for error. Thus this video is merely my interpretation of the original. Enjoy :-)

I'm pretty new to the guitar but I have learned the chorus that he plays with the band but I don't really understand what an octave is or how to play it. I really want to learn the solo version of the chorus so any help would be appreciated.

Am, G, F, G...not too difficult, just listen for the strumming. His intro is just the power chords version of that to start, then a slowed down version of the full chords. The fiddling he does is different every time, structured around the same ideas. It's easier to just get comfy with it on your own :)
