The smirk wiped from Chancellor George (Gideon) Osborne's face when appearing before the Treasury select committee on 4th November 2010.

Osborne was accused of "misleading the public" for claiming the UK was near bankruptcy in the weeks after he took office.

He was asked how the cuts would impact on him personally. Osborne, member of the Bullingdon Club, heir to the baronetcy of Ballentaylor, benefits from a trust fund established by his father. The trust is held abroad to avoid UK tax. It's worth an estimated £4m.

  • Osborne survived fine. Mann was basically saying "Pay for these things. I don't care if you can't afford it as the result of my party's failed ideology, pay for it. Oh, you cant? Oh, oh, oh, you're the big Tory boogeyman!" Left wingers need a dose of reality and a lesson in basic arithmetic.

  • I don't know why we'd even argue about this - the policies are nothing to do with economics - that they're not working but are continuing shows that. The agenda is for it NOT to work, so that further cuts are made to wages, pensions and more services privatised. Who will then own these companies? You guessed it..

  • Has this been edited?

I remember John Mann asking Osborne why Germany were in a stronger position and Osborne replied because they had been fiscally prudent in the past.

This got laughs around the room but not from Mann.

This may have been from a different meeting but I thought it was this one.

  • Time will tell whether Osborne's policies are right for this country.

However John Mann does himself no favours in the way he addresses Obsorne in this and other Treasury Select Committee meetings.

His dismissive manner and refusal to even look at Osborne when he speaks to him are completely uncalled for.

I think Umunna is destined to become Leader of the Labour Party. I'm not saying that's right or wrong but I think it's inevitable.

  • fucking answer the fucking questions

  • @WhiskyJacked No he shouldn't claim child benifit ....you've got better things to do than harp on about who's a crook on a comment section on youtube.

  • @temporaldisplacement

I have moved from a I bed flat to a bed-sit and I have claimed housing.

Housing shortfall alone is nearly 10 pounds a week I have to find from my giro so you can see that £60 turns into £50, then electric, water, internet, food, toiletries, clothing, phone, travel, see where this is going?

I had to quit drinking and smoking, I gave up my car, still I struggle. And he claims child benefit even though he is a millionaire, so yes I do get bitter, he is a crook

  • @WhiskyJacked You got made redundant because your job was never economically viable, thats how it goes; anecdotes on individuals isn't worth shit ....bills vs food on £60 living allowances? don't be stupid. Either you need to move into somewhere you can afford or start claiming housing benifit.

    - Chill the fuck out.

  • @WhiskyJacked Finally the tone of this comment section has changed for the better; bravo.
