Dr. William Lane Craig gives a lecture on whether life has meaning without God. Does life have ultimate meaning in atheism? Can God provide the basis for purpose in life?

  • Everything he said revolves around an assumption that we can choose a world without God or not. Wrong! This universe either has a God, or it does not. We don't get to choose. I for one agree with Carl Sagan when he said "For me, it is far better to grasp the Universe as it really is than to persist in delusion, however satisfying and reassuring." We must face our future, for better or worse, with open and honest minds.

  • @DakkaKing One thing we do know is that things don't just happen, they're made to happen. That's just a fixed principle of reality. We also know that the depth of cause-effect reasoning is what separates man from beast by an infinite gulf, and that man is a natural liar who is willing to watch the entire world burn around him so long as he gains for himself(byproduct of believing he can be god). In conclusion, I don't believe in atheists. I believe in liars and sometimes psychopaths.

  • Craig is right. Life does not have any 'deep' or ultimate meaning value or purpose. Inventing a god to give it purpose is not dealing with that fact, just covering it up. Live life well; for whatever you believe it is the only chance you will get.

  • Really people stop being stupid and watch all 3 parts before you say he is appealing to a fallacy - he is not trying to prove God exists because it wouldn't be fair if He doesn't, he even says this at the end of part 3 that everything he has said thus far does not even the slightest prove God existence, it only shows what atheism leads to. Stop being deaf!!

  • 1:22 "If each individual person passes out of existence when he dies, then what ultimate meaning can be given to his life? Does it really matter whether he ever existed or not?" Yes.

  • @oodlesofosz "Atheists criticise religious people for doing bad things yet they themselves don't believe in good or bad they are total hypocrits."

I'm not sure which non-religious people or atheists you know who don't distinguish between good or bad. Maybe you simply don't know enough non-religious people? Where I live (not in America), most people are non-religious, many are outspoke atheists, and we often discuss moral issues, what's good/bad etc, without bringing theism into it.

  • @rushncap Well, if you actually listened to this video, you'd know that Craig did NOT give evidence for the existence of God. All he's doing here is saying how life would be without God. Next time when you watch a video, do so without plugging your ears. That helps. I think you can do it. It's not hard.

  • @drcraigvideos -- it is sheer moronic dishonesty to claim that the point of Craig's speech is not to argue for god. That's like bludgeoning your cheating lover to death with a thousand hits of a baseball bat, then saying to the judge "I never said I was jealous or mad". Just because you don't actually utter those words does not mean that sentient beings with IQs over, say, 55 or 60 can't figure out what the point of your actions is.

  • @pcgamer010 The point of this video isn't the evidence of God per se but the meaning of life. Why is it so hard for you to make the distinction? Anyway, if you refuse to watch the video, I can't help you any more. You're just trolling.

  • @drcraigvideos Right, but it also may be absurd without the flying spaghetti monster or the cosmic teapot. There's no point in mentioning God (or any of them) at all. They are all non-factors. There is no evidence for any of their existences. So don't mention them!

Any man with sense would call the lecture "The absurdity of life with our current understanding of the Universe".

  • @pcgamer010 Because the point of the video is absrudity WITHOUT God. You even conceded that life may be absurd without him. Anyway, try watching the video next time. You obviously didn't.
