Having Fun in a 1941 Stearman Biplane over the Mojave Desert in California. The Stearman was the trainer plane for American WWII pilots. Nearly every American pilot in WWII received their initial training in one of these. After the war, most of remaining Stearmans were sold and used for air shows and crop dusting. There are quite a few still flying today and many owners offer rides for a fee to help defray to the cost of maintaining them.
This one is owned by http://www.nostalgicwarbirdrides.com/ and from Oct.- May is in Palm Springs, Ca. But wherever you are in the USA, you're likely to find one nearby that you can go up in. If you're the type that likes roller coasters, this is about as good as it gets. Words don't do justice to the open cockpit flying experience.
After Mike, the owner seen in the rear seat, puts her through her paces, you get to take the stick and pilot the plane. You can see at the end of this clip i give a an enthusiastic nod when Mike asks " are you ready to take the stick?" As much fun as it is to be turned upside down and spun around experiencing almost three G Forces at times, actually piloting the plane is even better, but that's where i cut the clip as it makes a boring vid for you the viewer. I've taken this ride several times. Each time up it's a little different due to the varying weather conditions on any given day, but always exciting.

  • @buellsteven Sounds like you had a good time. Thanks for commenting.

  • Hey very nice aerobatic performance and video! seems like this stearman has a 450, isn`t it? Congrats!

  • Thanks.. I'm pretty sure this one is a Continental R-670-5 Seven-cylinder radial engine, 220 hp. It''s a PT-17 Kaydet.

  • Love the music, love the plane ride more! Very cool video, Im jealous!

  • Thanks for the comment and rating. The original vid had a Glenn Miller soundtrack for that '40's feel, but YT silenced it with their copyright filter. I got lucky when i found this music in audio swap. I've viewed this a few times since it was posted just to hear the new track :) I hope you can find the time to take a ride like it for yourself some day. Gotta warn you though, you may find yourself going back for another and another - which is what has happened to me.

  • I hope you have a great year of more flying like this and big smiles!

  • Sounds like Benny Goodman on the track now. by the way, excellent example of "interval jazz". Notice how the clarinet "noodling" is really all in one chord.

  • Wow!!! That looks like so much fun. The music suits this beautifully!

  • Thanks for commenting. All the credit for the stunt flying goes to Mike who's in the back seat. He's a fantastic pilot with 1000's of hours logged. There's a link to his website in the info section.
