This is the first of four segments of a video demonstration of turning a bottlestopper from a piece of ash and inlaying some contrasting wood in the top of the stopper.
Supper glue great idea I use it a lot since watching differant video's on utube,
did not relise that htere were so many differant types thick, med, thin. and the actervator did not know about it or where to get it but soon found out once I see you use it Thanks Bob keep up the good work. regards George UK scorpionwoodcraft
After making 250 bottle stopper i am shure if you drill a 5/16" diameter hole and use the Beall method of tapping the hole you will not have any troubles.
You place the live center into the back of the tap and turn the tap w/ a wrench then advance the tail stock until it feels firm the repeat the process till the tap has bottomed out, now you are ready to mount the wood part onto the mandrel.
Good idea to use CA glue to reinforce the fibers prior to threading.
To dry the glue you can turn the lathe on and let centrifugal force send it deep into the wood. Just make sure it isn't leaking out of the end and stand off to the side.
