Closer to home, the man most responsible for decent, almost free health care, spied on by the RCMP & other secret organizations, employed by OUR Gov. Till this day, they will not disclose the SECRET FILES on him, &THIS IS CANADA!!! That is something U would expect of the Commies!!

  • @Kael7777 Name 1 series they have won, U ask. Now I'm going to tell U but, shhh, don't tell anyone else, they R trying to forget it.

UC bck in Feb. 79, the NHL shut down 4 about 2 wks. A series of 3 games 2 be played in NY, pitting the best of the USSR against the BEST OF THE WORLD. An odd # series, no tie!

The NHL stacked its best lines & pairs of def.

They split the 1st 2 games. In the 3rd, the USSR won 6-0, with out "K" & Tretiak, & also beat the officials.

    "SERIES OF THE CENTURY"...SHHHH!!

  • Agreed. I am not biased or try to diminish Canada's real achievements. Last Olympics? Canada beat Russia. Fair and square. I guarantee no Russian will dare not to acknowledge that. But the '72 series was far from Canada triumph in my opinion. And yes, Canada did send some scouts but they just saw Tretyak allowing 8 goals in one game weeks before, not realizing it was the day before his wedding and he was not concentrating at all providing back wrong report on the "weakest" spot in Soviet team.

  • There's no doubt that the Canadian players were dirtier and breaking the rules more often. They were probably frustrated, but I don't think its was a KGB conspiracy. So much of it was the NHL players not having any idea how good the Soviets were. That's the amazing part. I wonder if any scouts watched the Soviets for a period of time before this series. The Canadians were caught so off guard it was amazing..

  • @dzanier Amazingly, you leave the most obvious explanation for this out of the question - that team Canada simply was playing much more dirty than Russians and were breaking the rules more often. But it is easier of course to talk about KGB conspiracy although none of the referees were Russian. Btw, the rules were obviously different from those of NHL, but why it was a surprise for Canadians in '72 is beyond me. Today NHL players go to Olympics and they don't do stuff they are allowed to in NHL.

  • Yes, but they were complaining about the fact that the Referees in the games in Russia were calling penalties on hits that were clean. In one game, Canada had 38 penalty minutes and the Soviets had 6. That's hard to explain even by the logic that the styles were different. Normally, what's a penalty in one country is a penalty everywhere.

  • @dzanier Yes, but why these 2 Canadian players talking about Russians playing different from what they used to in NHL like it was some sort of cheating??? Who have ever said that these series will be played totally along NHL rules and customs? This was international encounter and the 2 teams both brought their own style whatever they were used to. Russians were similarly perplexed about fighting on ice.

  • reflection of the two teams. And I hope you would agree that many European players are quite a bit more sneaky with stick work like jabbing behind the knees with sticks. It's very subtle and hard to detect, plus, there is no fighting allowed in Russian hockey so it's normal that frustration gets vented through stick use as opposed to two guys just dropping their gloves and fighting. Boris Mikhailov used his skate as a weapon, kicking Gary Bergman two times before the fight ended

  • I didn't think it was worth mentioning that the Canadian team had practiced together for like only 2 weeks while the Russians had been practicing year round. The Canadians got much better in the USSR cause they had time to practice and get into better shape. I will NEVER deny the Soviet's REMARKABLE skill level, but the difference between the two teams was more like the final result, where Canada won but really didn't. When the Soviets were up 3 games to 1 it wasn't an accurate

  • @dzanier You are a weird guy. We are talking about sports events here and straight away you are trying to mix in state ideology? It has nothing to do with that. It was all about Canadians behaving like prima donnas like they are top of the world. So when we beat them 7:3 in first game it was like the end of the world for them. They were booed off the arena by their own fans. At the end they have won with the minimal advantage possible and yes, only because they managed to get rid of Kharlamov

  • It wasn't just cause of Kharlamov's injury, and you have no business calling Canadians or Americans pricks. I'll be the first American to admit my country has a lot to ashamed of and I'm not proud of it. But so much of what has ruined America and Canada proceeds from Marxism-Leninism and communist ideologies. Many Americans and Canadians are unaware of this. Russia was once a great land prior to Bolshevism.

  • Canadians are full of sh@t. I don't see any video of any spearing. Though there is very famous video of how Bobby Clarke fractured Valery Kharlamov's ankle. And that's how you pricks won the series. Before that Canadians were loosing 1:3 in the series but after they got rid of Kharlamov they won 3 games straight.
