Yigal Kaminka performes the Darius Castello's second sonata for solo instrument live in Karlsruhe, Germany. 24.6.2010. Email: yigal.kaminka@joytunes.com
This music needs a mixture of virtuosity, and improvisation-like playing, suggesting the player is just waiting inspiration for his next diminutions, and then going ahead again and play them brilliantly. Maria Diez-Canedo does that very well, even introducing small unwritten fermatas above rest at some points. And looking at the bass in these passages, you realize it's just written to allow that !
I see he plays Berio, too. His playing here is rather typical of contemporary music players ; they like to make sounds - that's ok - and listen to their sound, and focus so much on themselves producting the sound - and that's too much !. Therefore some notes become too long or too rich, that's the case of a few notes or groups that should be upbeats but don't sound like they are. Just my opinion
@AlainNaigeon Thanks. No, I hadn't until you posted, but I've checked that out just now. I can see why you drew the comparison to my attention. Much better.
Sounds nice, but a very showy performance and therefore more to listen to than to watch. I'd buy a CD of this guy, but I wouldn't pay to see him live.

@therealsweep I agree.
Did you have a look (hear) at Maria Diez-Canedo playing the same piece ?
