  • I'd still give it a shot of sanitizer because the bleach in the detergent evaporates on long soaks.

  • Automatic dishwashing detergent is awesome. Use a decent quality basic one. After rinsing your carboy, put in about 2 ounces and fill it up with hot water. Letting it soak over night will almost always eliminate the need for scrubbing. If something is still hanging on, it is much easier to get off.

It also contains bleach, and depending your area; phosphates (TSP or equivalent). It also rinses away much more easily than dish soap.

  • i use a carboy brush and dish soap..... with that ring you have, you may want to let it set for a few hours before you try scrubbing =]

  • keep those green bootles out of the sunlight, elst you'll skunk those brews, of course i am sure you know that. I use a carboy brush without issues, Although i love some of these other ideas, i might give a try, great question.

  • Nice grolsch bottles. Happy HBW!

  • Yeah I use a carboy brush as well. Check out Immo's videos on cleaning it is a real good video and shows alot on how he cleans all his equipment.

    Cheers!!

  • I use a carboy brush. But yeah, Gentlearts recently posted that video dumping a batch when he forgot to rinse out the chlorinated stuff well enough, d'oh :)

  • oxi clean works wonders and don't be afraid of the pink stuff it works well but it does need to be rinsed well. i find that hot water and oxi clean work best for me.

  • The pink powder is called CloroClean here. I use it all the time. One of my carboys had a really tough calcium stain and that stuff plus a brush worked wonders. There are other cleaners for brewing but I've never been able to find them. Go ahead with the pink stuff. Just rinse it well. I use my bottle cleaner to rinse mine. DON'T use dish soap.

  • Pour hot water to the top. Let it sit overnight, pour out, Put some PBW in and refill with hot water. Let that sit overnight and you should be fine. I usually clean it while it's fresh and hasn't dried in like yours did. Or you can just go with a carboy brush as you menshoned. (Sorry for the spelling.) Hope this helped, cheers!
