Afterall, didn't most major news networks report that the boy "might" be in the balloon? Weren't they also searching his house AND following/searching the balloon which was the wisest thing to do in this circumstance.

I don't get how Americans are stupid based on this story. NO ONE, *at first* knew what the hek was going on and if a boy was missing for some time, and someone reported that he was in the balloon, then isn't it more responsible to be safe than sorry? Sure the story ended up being a hoax, but of course, no one knew that at first, and some times it takes time to find things out.
