The film canister seltzer rocket was fun, but not very powerful, so we looked for an alternative that would pack more punch for my son's science fair project. This is the first successful test of the marker design, on the kitchen countertop.

  • It's a washable marker with the back end removed and the felt taken out. I taped the cap to seal it, loaded the alka seltzer in the back end and put the cap back on the back end. It takes pliers to get that cap off so you can imagine the pressure release is a lot better. The model rocket altimeter we borrowed said the finished rocket made 70-100 feet. I'm not sure I believe that but it blows away a film canister.
