Apologies for probably blind-siding my current subscribers with concert footage that has nothing to do with video games, nerd /geek culture, or rantings...

...though I have been asked what kind of music I enjoy, so this will provide a taste.

Besides guys, c'mon:

Cute girl. Free concert.

-------------------------

Recently I decided that I'd like to start going to more concerts and spending less on movies at the theaters--in hopes of becoming more familiar with local and national talent...and becoming more socially adept instead of using the net as a crutch to meet new people.

I don't know if you guys have realized this yet but--the modern popular radio music industry is absolutely and incontrovertibly shite...and it's only getting worse. Now, more than ever, we have the opportunity to explore and find bands and artists we like, rather than keeping our collective scope limited to what crap is hocked at us by some heartless record company and mainstream radio stations that are paid to loop the same 20 mindless, auto-tuned, lyrically-retarded garbage tracks performed by by people completely void of talent.

Kate Miller-Heidke was a truly rare, funny, eccentric gem that I feel extremely fortunate to have stumbled across as the opening act for Ben Folds just a couple of nights ago. An opera-trained hilarious Australian, Kate's been singing almost as long as she's been alive--and it shows. Her live shows with her husband Keir Nuttall are phenomenally fun...and her sweet spitfire of an on-stage personality seems to cause every one in the room to fall in love with her.

My pal Dave and I liked her so much at the Ben Folds concert that we decided we HAD to go see her again--less than 24 hours later. But hey, they're from Australia so I'm thinking it'll be a while before they're back.

I brought a camera along, got her permission to film and that's what you're watching right now. I have approximately 5 songs from the show I'll be uploading, including an awesome cover of Britney Spears' "Toxic" and a hilarious song about an ex wanting to be facebook friends.

XPN's World Cafe venue was also fantastic and the low-light atmosphere made for what felt like a truly intimate connection with the musicians. I can't wait to come back--perhaps with a date.

"Politics in Space"

I'm not gonna state my case anymore
Cause I haven't got a leg to stand on
I'm not gonna take the leap anymore
Cause I got no mat to land on

I'm not gonna smoke that shit anymore
It'll only get me thinking
And I better not paddle upstream anymore
Cause this canoe is sinking

No no no no no no

Are you alright? (pretty much)
Are you okay? (pretty much)
You got your health? (pretty much)
You know the way? (pretty much)
You know your limit? (pretty much)
You understand? (pretty much)
Are you the man? (pretty much) (pretty much)

Citizens don't stand up anymore
There's no point losing face
Sound off! 1 2 3 4
Politics in space

I'm not gonna be polite anymore
Cause everybody's got bad manners
I'm not gonna make any plans anymore
Cause the works are full of spanners
I'm not gonna meditate anymore
The revolution is off the agenda
I'm a baby boomer's daughter
And I'm never gonna reach nirvana

The sixties were 50 years ago
You know
Get over it

  • They opened for Ben Folds the other day. That dude on the left has the deepest fucking voice. Pretty cool to hear through the theatre speakers.

  • @tenor220 I second that lol

  • @jessejax You must be retarded to say that a classically trained woman, who has performed with opera companies can't sing.

  • Thanks for shareing.....

  • @AkewsticRockR Yes, please more! She reminds me of Anneke van Giersenbergen, in appearance and taste. Try her.

  • This certainly is an interesting group. Liked this song. Quite refreshing from all the Justin Beiber, Rhianna, Boys Like Girls, etc songs I hear everyday.

  • Thank you for blind-siding me!

  • @Silverslate

More to come! Glad you like her! Definitely wanted to share this with everyone who has ears for good music created by serious talent.
