Exercise for elderly women to prevent fractures is critical. one third of women over 65 who fracture a leg, die within one year of the fracture. In this short film, several women between the ages of 45 and 84 demonstrate exercises to help slow the progression of osteoporosis. Aerobic activity, like walking or rowing improves circulation. Rowing is terrific because it stresses all the muscles of ambulation, and works through a range of motion. All weight bearing exercises are maximally repeated three times, and done with the maximal weight that the patient can tolerate, and is done two or maximally three times per week. The time in between exercise allows recovery and acclimatization to the weight. The aerobic activity is a daily thing, this helps muscles to get circulation and improve on days inbetween weight training.
