  • By itself with the rubber antenna this handheld doesn't preform well on 6m, but if connected to an external antenna such is the case (Diamond GP-15 tri band base station antenna) and with good skip conditions its possible to work some FM DX, locally I don´t have any problem to chat with all my friends with this antenna and even low power levels. 6m band is very unpredictable!

  • @stonesharve This video here suggests that handheld's not a waste of money. Seriously though, the range is pretty good on this band even with portables. It's underused when there are no Es openings, which is tragic when the amateur community waited so long for it to become available, and often the band is open but nobody's on it. It's capable of providing good, reliable comms over medium distances even uder flat conditions, and can deliver lots of nice surprises. The more using it the better.

  • @stonesharve I disagree, if you connect it to a decent antenna a 6m hand portable radio can be very useful.

I agree that the supplied flexible antenna that is probably less than 1/20th of a wavelength long IS a waste of time on 6m!

  • Buying a Ht for 6 meters is a waste of money

  • Hi there and thanks for sharing this video on YouTube.

The GB3FH repeater is on the Mendip Hills, near to the town of Cheddar in South West England. Quite a trip to Portugal!

73, from Matt G4RKY, repeater keeper of GB3FH.

  • Hard to tell what they are saying. Do you know where they were located, or where the tx'r is in relation to your station?
