The song, "In '59", is the lengthy opening track from the brilliant Mickey Newbury album, "A Long Road Home". The spoken word introduction I've edited in before the song is Kris Kristofferson speaking of the influence Mickey Newbury had on his own life and work. This excerpt comes from a compelling two-disc aural biography of Newbury by the late San Francisco radio legend, Ron Lyons, called "Mickey Newbury: An American Treasure". Well worth looking for. As for "A Long Road Home," it is, considering Mickey's failing health at the time of its making (he was on oxygen), not only a masterful album of autobiographical depth and breadth, but a triumph for being made at all.

  • Duke, you are promoting and honoring one of the most important songwriters/singers of the last century. And to my humble opinion, it's a labor of love and dedication and.... you are doing a great job!

Known mostly by a group of insiders worldwide, this medium will spread the word worldwide. It is about time.

Mickey Newbury's songs are the best!

    Thank you Duke!

  • @promuze - I do it for the love of the artists and songs. Receiving a little praise is energizing. Thank you.

  • @cannitb And sad to say, Dylan can't carry a tune. Mickey hits you right where you live, in your heart. I sure miss the man. Got me cryin like a baby.

  • I like the photo of the dog asleep in the guitar case !

  • Mickey passed away at only 62 yrs old. Check out Michey's last performance. He died of lung cancer. A very painful was to go. He is wearing oxygen tubing and at one time, he pulled the tubing off and said, that noise is driving me nuts. The first song he does at that time, was "down and dirty" a blues song. I never heard it before and has become one of my fav. songs by him. bless you Duke..

  • God's own cello.

  • Thank you for the beautiful video. Only knew a few of MIckey's songs. Never heard this one and it is wonderful. Enjoyed the photographs and the bit of Kris. Altogether

    lovely. NAncy

  • I will agree with 'promuze's' posted comment! This video is, indeed, a wonderful tribute to Mickey Newbury! He is a cherished legend in the Best of American songwriters! I shall always cherish him among my favorite singers!

  • Most music folk in the UK think Dylan is the greatest poet and songwriter to come out of the States but most folk in the UK have not heard of Mickey Newbury. Those of us who" Know" never argue the point , just lend them a CD and wait for their hearts and minds to switch on. Dylan, for all his talent does'nt make you cry, ever. Newbury does as music sometimes should. Thanks for the great mix of music and images.

  • i am a big ugly englishman but these tunes by Mickey just reduce me to a bubbling heap . At least we have the music God Bless Mickey ... thanks for these super uploads

  • This Is Just Achingly Beautiful ! If you can't cry on this song.. you must not got no heart nor no soul at all..
