Mark Kirk showed up at the victory party of Bob Sabonjian, the newly-elected Mayor of Waukegan. The previous Mayor, Richard Hyde, became nationally reknown among the Minutemen and anti-immigrant groups when, in June of 2007 Waukegan became one of the first towns in Illinois to apply for the controversial 287g program, which would allow local police officers to enforce federal immigration laws.
Kirk pandered to the largely Latino crowd (Sabonjian was elected by working with the Latino community) blatantly ducked all the questions about immigration.
He was not so timid when a few years ago he stood on the US House floor and suggested sending condoms to Mexico as a fix to the US broken immigration system. He was also not timid when he said that he was okay with the racial profiling of Muslim men. More at icirr.org/kirk
