Finance Committee Wraps Up Health Care Reform Concept Paper; Sen. LeMieux Concerned Over Tax Increases
U.S. Senator George LeMieux (R-FL) today talked about the health care reform proposal taking shape in the Senate Finance Committee and his concerns over the proposed tax increases to pay for the reform.
For the very people were trying to help, working families struggling with the high cost of health insurance, this proposal includes a mandate to buy health insurance or else pay a tax penalty. Thats not a real solution. Thats not going to help Floridas families gain access to better care, said LeMieux. Im also very concerned about the rush to push a bill through Congress that hasnt even been written. Well be asked to vote in the next two weeks on a bill no one has read. Id rather slow down and get it right than do it quickly and get it wrong.
The Senate Finance Committee is the fifth and final congressional committee to produce a segment of the proposed health care overhaul bill. The committee is set to vote on the bill early next week, sending the measure, along with its other components, to the Senate floor for a vote as early as the end of October.
