@jarossamdb7 In conclusion, there are many things more important than individual human happiness. Having a strong, centralized government controlling an industrialized country capable of producing war weapons for itself is what being a strong country truly means. A country without factories and a huge supply of resources is nothing.

@jarossamdb7 Also traditional agricultural countries usually have a very weak industrial base or none at all. In the event of a war with, or invasion by, another country that country would have to rely on weapons imported from other countries because it can't produce any for itself (cause no factories). That's why those agricultural countries (usually called undeveloped/third world) are often so easy to invade or conquer. Just look at how the US conquered Afghanistan so easily.

@jarossamdb7 It's not that simple, there are many downsides to being a traditional agricultural country. When there is a big crop failure in a certain region, the people of that region are pretty much fucked because they can't borrow from other regions (everyone produces just enough to sustain themselves and a tiny profit, that's why its called subsistence farming). Chinese people know this, China have been a subsistence-farming culture for almost all of its history.

Replace these Chinese men with women making bombs and bullets during WWII and you will find striking if not exact similarities.... As well as the wages - as the US propoganda machine was in full effect and paid the women basically nothing to support the war effort.
