The Anti-Prom, organized by NYPL's Young Adult Programs, provides an alternative, safe space for all teens who may not feel welcome at official school proms or dances because of their sexual orientation, the way they dress, or any other reason. This year's event took place on Friday, June 12, in Astor Hall at the Stephen A. Scharzman Building. It was guest hosted by Tim Gunn, of Project Runway and author of "Tim Gunn: A Guide to Quality, Taste, and Style," and Austin Scarlett, fashion designer and a former Project Runway contestant. Watch as six teens visit the Library's Art & Architecture Collection and its Picture Collection to research outfits they'll be designing for the event. In the next episode, Tim Gunn will meet with the teens to critique their work. This video was produced by Amy Azzarito and James Murdock, of The New York Public Library Digital Experience Group, with Jack Martin and Chris Shoemaker, of Young Adult Programs. Special thanks to Paula Baxter, Susan Chute, Jessica Cline, Penny Glenar, and Clayton Kirking, from the Library—as well as Rena Deutsch and Julie Zenobi, from the New Design High School. Music by Todd Mazierski.
