When i was six or so my father would always play this song, so it became my favorite. I would always walk around singing it, my father never stopped me. I just recently learned it was about prostitution. and i have realized the stares i used to get probably weren't because of how great a singing i was, like i used to think...

Back in 1979 Donna said this song was about prostitutes she saw near her Hollywood studio. By the 1990s she changed the story a little bit and said someone she knew was stopped by the cops for being a probable prostitute.

Whatever the case it probably does not please the ghouls in the media that Donna reflected on a black woman being a prostitute instead of talking about no mountain being to high to overcome " the man."

I agree Donna was not some crass ghetto hag like the ones who followed in her footsteps. It would be interesting to know the exact day and month this was performed. Shoots me right back to 1979. The music media was so tough on Donna back then but this footage proves how good she really was. I have to wonder if the constant criticism took a toll on Donna back then. I never saw a good artist get criticized so harshly like Donna did from 1979-1981.
