Five Iron Frenzy New Years Eve (with Lyrics) - Music Devotion

This year I promise to stop smoking...My resolution will be to loose twenty pounds...This new year I will start exercising. We have all heard them and said them. Weeks go by and we go back to the way we were.

Does not the author of this song truly capture exactly what we are thinking when he states that we half pretend to make promises for the New Year? Often we make promises for the New Year but we never mention them because we are either too ashamed of what they are or we know that we will likely fail in fulfilling them.

Sometimes we are able to keep a resolution or two. However, most likely, year after year, we fall short of this pledge we place upon ourselves. We should admitour efforts will continually fail. The author of this song is begging for something to change him on the INSIDE. He is pointing to something greater to make that change. That change is something greater than himself. Only a great and sovereign God can change the crooked and misguided you and me.

I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh.
Ezekiel 36.26

Anyone who belongs to Christ is a new person. The past is forgotten, and everything is new.
2 Corinthians 5.17

Maybe instead of making some good intention New Years resolution that we are most likely unable to keep, we should talk with an all knowing and everlasting God. Perhaps we should be asking Him to change ourselves through His power and not of ourselves until we see Him face to face.

To him who is able to keep you from falling and to present you before his glorious presence without fault and with great joy— to the only God our Savior be glory, majesty, power and authority, through Jesus Christ our Lord, before all ages, now and forevermore! Amen.
Jude 24-25
