Richard STRAUSS: Beim Schlafengehen

Version for voice and piano, arranged for voice and harp

Lyrics by Hermann Hesse:
Nun der Tag mich müd gemacht,
soll mein sehnliches Verlangen
freundlich die gestirnte Nacht
wie ein müdes Kind empfangen.

Hände, laßt von allem Tun,
Stirn, vergiß du alles Denken,
alle meine Sinne nun
wollen sich in Schlummer senken.

Und die Seele unbewacht
will in freien Flügen schweben,
um im Zauberkreis der Nacht
tief und tausendfach zu leben.

  • @hedgechair

to me, damrau is steel, rothenberger is softness...

  • Love this singer, but this is not her rep. Her sound can not fill up the lines and give the music direction.

  • @operatube Thank you for your perfectly true comment. I hope we cannot disagree on both these ladies voices showing beatiful femininity, great technical facility, and though quite dissimilar, except for a purity in the highest range (presentation of the Rose?), Diana, to be cruder than I wish, is sex on legs, which the beautiful Anneliese was not.

  • @hedgechair

i must respectfully disagree... damrau and rothenberger's voices/style are WORLD'S APART!

  • Well, her voice has the perfect femininity and facility which the most missed Anneliese Rothenberger also gave us, but Diana is fabulously erotic also. So, so lovely.

  • that guy sneezed so loud it put her off!

  • Nice job, Dennis. operatube makes good points. The harp and Diana make for a cosy Liederabend.

  • Wonderful. Thanks a lot for posting - but I guess her voice is already suffering from pregnancy. A little little under my expectations :-P

    Thanks for posting :-)

  • one of the rare, rare times anyone takes "tausendfach" in one breath, and of course someone has to sneeze right there
