I am Amber Cook, I own Grass Roots Organica and I am also a medical cardholder (Colorado medical marijuana patient), and the reason I have my card is because, well one I have endometriosis I had that after the birth of my first son. I have had two surgeries, and the doctor basically said, "deal with the pain, you have to come back for surgeries, or get a full hysterectomy. Still being at the young age I am of 30, I do not want to have a hysterectomy, so I get really bad pains monthly, more so than your normal cramping. Feels like little elves are inside my ovaries with knives and so I have found that typically Indica's are strong in cannabinoids, work very well for myself. I have also had been diagnosed with Irritable Bowel Syndrome and an ulcer. It helps with the Irritable Bowel Syndrome; they put me on several types of medicines. The medicines out there for irritable bowel are not very good I don't think, they kind of made it worse, they made my stomach cramp up very tight, along with other altercations from taking the medicine. I decided to go off those medicines and kind of medicinally treat myself with cannabis, as you know I had been a recreational user before, and I just knew that it actually helped me. Helped me with my appetite, it helped me keep food down. So when it became legal medicinally, I went and got my red card. I decided I'm not going to shove these pharmaceuticals down my throat, I take ibuprofen and that's it. The rest of the stuff I use medicinal cannabis for, just depending on the strain and what type of pain I have. It's very helpful and I don't have any side effects other than, hungry. That's kind of why I'm a cardholder myself. I have a lot of family members that have passed away from cancer, leukemia, and etcetera. I have done studying for a couple of years out in California, I went to Oaksterdam University, and Cannabis Carrier Institute to kind of learn the in's and out's of the business, as well as the benefits a little bit deeper of cannabis. Here at my store, we test all the strains, so we know exactly what the THC is, what the Cannabinoid level is, we know the potency, the purity, whether there are any bugs, insects, mildew, mold. That's very important, the testing of it. You know, before you just could get whatever you could get. Now you feel safer about going into a nice secure medical cannabis center and they know you, know what you want, what you need, what you like, I try to offer that to all my patients. A little bit of common courtesy, and I kind of treat patients how I would want to be treated if I was going into a medical establishment. So I try to keep them informed, I try to keep my employees very informed on the benefits on the new testing that has come out, with other medical ailments that it can be beneficial for. So I go to all the hearings to try to stay very up to date in the industry as well as keeping that "mom and pop shop" feel where you come in and feel like your part of the family. If you have any questions, we offer consultations, we have doctors, not on site, but that we can refer you to, someone you can feel comfortable with. We offer acupuncture, cupping, foot detox, ion cleansings massage therapy, and we offer neuromuscular Swedish hot stones. The neuromuscular is great. We see a lot of patients that are in here from car accidents so the neuromuscular massage is really beneficial for them as well as with a combination of the cannabis. We also offer Chinese herbs as well.
I've suffered from I.B.S. for 12 years now, and I thank God that Michigan now allows medical marijuana. Before treatment with cannabis, I had spent the first 5 years treating it with what meds they prescribed, and still wound up in the hospital or emergency room every other month. I've learned more on how to identify what causes my type of I.B.S. since then, but still rely mostly on marijuana to take care of the pain and cramping, as well as extreme nausea and loss of appetite. It's a godsend!!!
