Opera / Sallinen - Kullervo - Act1, Sc.2 Smith's Young Wife

A short segment of the first act of the beautiful opera Kullervo by the Finnish composer Aulis Sallinen (1935): scene 2, a monologue of the Smith's Young Wife. Kullervo was composed during the period 1986-1988 and premiered in February 1992 in Los Angeles. This recording was made before that premiere, in September 1991 in Helsinki. Playing is the Finnish National Opera Orchestra directed by Ulf Soederblom and the role of the Smith's young wife is beautifully sung by mezzo-soprano Anna-Lisa Jakobsson. I bought the opera in 1992, not long after its release. This is just one of many beautiful scenes in this opera. If you're interested in modern opera and if you like the scene in this video then you really should buy it, cause the opera is full of scenes of great musical excitement. Highly recommended!
