I sure hope that is a sod cutter blade and NOT a reel mower bedknife!If it is a bedknife, that is the worst bednkife grinder I've ever seen!But if it is a sod cutter blade, it should do just fine with care taken.
You state very well the reason to use a jig: Avoid making hot spots. It allows one to take a small amount at a time over the length of the blade and not overheat the steel.

Indeed, it was designed for sod cutter blades and can also be used for rotary blades. Thanks for your comment.

uhhhhh....yeah. Way to ruin the steel's temper with that horrendously fast machine. Ooooo look at the pretty blue rainbows and all the sparks!
