The Making of Cats, broadcasted by Chassé Tv.

Translation (thanks to Combatter):
In this episode of chasse you're going to view the making of cats. A musical that's in the chasse theatre from Wednesday 9 until Sunday 27th of may.
The musical classic is a musical of many awards. It won the olviea, tony award and the moliare for best musical. It's was being shown for 21 year in London. And 7485 shows on Broadway.
Cats is this season touring through America, England, and viewable in japan, hongaria, and Taiwan.
And for the first time, as a large travelling production in 14 dutch theatres, from Maastricht till Groningen and from Enschede till the Hague. And its premier is in the new Luxor theatre in Rotterdam.
The red carpet is being walked on by many dutch celebrities, and some that were seen earlier in a cat's production.
But before the tour can start, there are 6 weeks of rehearsals. Because Cats is one of the most active musicals for dancers it's not easy for them.
Tuk stuk rukker: It took some getting used to in the beginning. It's been a while since I had danced. So, yeah, as you can see we're having a short break right now. No, it was just getting used to it again.
We are slowly adjusting to it, and we're almost done with rehearsing this part.
But it's good fun being back with the dancers, dancing with them and to try and get it as perfect as possible.

Cats is being studied by Kristen katright in the Netherlands, who has been connected to cats for over 20 years.
Jennyanydots: My memory plays tricks on my body, when I look up and remember the leg being there, I look down and it's on the other side. Then I'm just like, hmm.. right...
Bombalurina: Yes it's very much fun. When everybody is trying to think they're a cat, that's difficult enough. There have been a few sessions devoted on being a cat. But then you go into this kind of fantasy world and that is so much fun and everything is so different that it's really amazing. You're really going to sweat and sigh of it, and believe me, I do.
The music for cats was being written by Andrew Loyd Webber. And for the first time in concert on his own symphonic concert . The text is being translated from the book Old possum's book of practical cats, by t.l Eliot.
*Andrew talks in English, no translation needed.
It's lovely in the theatre. The set is beautiful and when you're on that garbage dump to see the possibilities and make fun of each other and the costumes that's important to do that before you do the show. To get it out of your system. No, it's very much fun.
There are about 36 wigs in the show, and total it's about 90 with other costumes. The wigs are made of yak hair, which is a bit more firm then wigs with real hair. And yeah, well yak is a cow with the long hair on their stomach. We make the wigs of them. The advantage of the hair is that it's better kept in style, but a disadvantage is that the color doesn't penetrate the hair as much as it should. So if we wash it too much or use product with alcohol the hair looses t's color very quickly. So we try and keep it up, and don't wash it that much. Every wig is being handmade. They use approximately 3000 hairs for each wig. And it takes 2 weeks for 1 wig to finish.
I sweat a lot during this show so I use an abundance of powder hoping that it stays on my face and if it fails then I'm just the cat that looks like that.... I can't make anything better out of it, but I'm not nervous thankfully.
I don't really like the make-up. But Thomas is doing his very best to make it look good, and much faster than last time. And the playing and singing with the younger people is very inspiring and it's lovely music and a fantastic musical so I enjoy every single second of it.
Jellylorum: The first time I applied the make-up, it took me 2,5 to 3 hours to do it. But we don't have that amount of time today, so I'ma little stressed today, here look, I got a bit of sweaty palms. But I hope, well, they say that eventually it could take about 30 to 45 minutes... I don't believe that, but, It's what they say.
Bustopher Jones: I'm almost done!
With every show there are more than 200 jars of smink used. That's one pallet of smink each month. 30 pair of gloves, 50 tails and 100 pair of shoes are being used. And every costume is being hand painted.
The first dutch cats went in premiere in 1987 in Amsterdam. The cast was a pond of talent for new musical talent. Corien boom, Debby jenner, Fons van Kraai, Pia Douwes and Stanley burleson made their musical debut in cats. I was a student at the vmbo ( similar to high school) and I took some dance classes, and I auditient for the musical cats and then I got hired.
