From SlateRoofWarehouse.com: A saddle ridge is a great way to finish off a ridge or hip on a slate roof. A good way to do it is to install a wood nailer directly to the roof deck on either side of the hip or ridge. The nailer should be three times the thickness of the slate. The field slates butt up to the nailer and the saddle slates nail over top. Here is a screwed-up example.
