I apologize for the nudity, I just ran through what I had in mind.
Recording my digital painting process while painting a sort of vampire fight. I used no photograph reference. I had the set and color scheme in mind and started drawing on my blank canvas with a small rounded brush to get the position. Place the characters, fill them with basic color. Then going into rendering.
The video skips a good part of the process because otherwise it was too long, but I'm basically just doing the same thing all over, rendering details, picking the colors I have blended on my painting with brush opacity and applying them elsewhere to get smooth blends.
I use two custom brushes for this aside a little bit of the basic soft brush.
I used the polygonal lasso tool to get crisp edges on my character silhouettes, that I smoothed out with a small rounded brush at the end in some parts.

@georgbernier The video is not complete, as I wrote in the comment. There are several hours between the last thing we see and the final product showing in the last seconds, which is completely detailed.
