The story of the Jena 6. Racial injustice after white students hung nooses under a tree where black students had sat and an outbreak of violence soon followed. Black students were assaulted by white students who received three day suspensions. A white student was assaulted by black students who were originally charged with attempted murder. One, 16-year-old Mychal Bell, is facing 22 years in jail after being convicted by an all white jury when no witnesses were called by a court appointed lawyer.

  • Look, they deserved to be punished. They ganged up on a kid and beat him up, regardless of whether he provoked them or not, whether or not race was involved (which it was).

But 20-25 years in prison? Being tried for murder? Are you fucking serious? The convictions and consequences did not fit.

And what happened to the three teens that hung the nooses? Were they tried? How come we don't hear about them?

  • @cutiealto2 I HAVE researched this since the beginning. it's YOU who is off on facts.

LA the age of adult for criminal cases is 17. Look it up. It's easy to do.

They were NOt minors. Only Bell & Beard.

The white guy WAS jumped, I've read the reprts from him, theattackers & the witnesses. They wanted to beat him up for a fight the night before & he ran to his truck for a gun. They jumped him & took it.

& yes, the peple organizing the rallies called for ALL charges to be dropped.

  • @mamacornettesmoney and you are also incorrect on the age of an adult in Louisiana. Louisiana consider an adult at 18 years, which can be found in the Louisiana Civil Code, Book 1, title 8, chapter 2. And no, the court did it in response to the people and defense, and yes, most people did know before charges were dropped (I have a link for this too if you want it).

I've done research for this, and you should really make sure you know the facts before you make these acusations.

  • @mamacornettesmoney I'm sorry, but all were minors at the time. I just looked it up. I can give you the link if you want. And five were tried as adults, so maybe you should check your memory from supposedly "being there". I also looked up the case of the white man. He was not jumped. I can send you the link on that too. And they explicity said that they didn't want them NOT to be punished, but the charges they came about were ridiculous concerning how they dealt with white threats and fights

  • @cutiealto2 They did say they didn't condone it, however they stated explicitly that the goal was to drop ALL charges. I was there.

No, 4 of the 6 were NOT minors. Only Bell & Beard, Bell being a few weeks from 17 (that is adult in LA) and it was his 4th violation of probation for severely beating a girl. The charges WERE dropped on the courts own will. Most didn't even know about it until after that decsion was made.

No, the guy at the store was jumped. His attackers were arrested.

  • @mamacornettesmoney oh, and it has been settled by credited law experts (both black and white) that the white man was definitely at legal fault for assault with a weapon. (haha, I keep forgetting to address certain things, so I have to keep reposting replies. Sorry.)

  • @mamacornettesmoney and in regard to the age thing (now that we have established crime is punished based off of the age in which the crime was committed), how can you sit up here and say they were adults, minus two people, when they were all in highschool, and the majority was not seniors?!

  • @mamacornettesmoney And also, I can't believe you are neglecting the facts of the story concerning the white assaulter. The white man even said he wasn't physically assaulted by the black men, he just felt "threatened" by them being there. He went back to his truck (which the black men did not follow him, so why did he bother coming back?) and assaulted them with the gun. And "jumping" someone is to attack with no cause or warning, so it's use is very inadequate in this case.

  • @mamacornettesmoney That is 100% false. The parents and the leaders of the cause stated themselves that they did not condone how the children handled the situation. Yes, they were minors. Mychal Bell was 16 when the crime was committed, and law states that the basis of trying someone is based off of the age in which the crime was committed. Charges were lowered as a RESULT of the community's response (some of them anyways), so please do not act like it was because of the court's free will.
