Photos taken around southern Alberta in June & July 2006. Displayed as a montage of panning slide-show images with music. Music is Brokeback Mountain Theme #1 by Gustavo Santaolalla from the motion picture soundtrack; he won the 2006 Oscar for this film score...congratulations Gustavo!

Several of the places seen here were actual shooting locations for Brokeback.

  • Great video. I love being Albertan and I will never leave here. Read your profile and I noticced that you are from California. Just wondering if you lived here before, or something like that. EXCELLENT work. 5/5 would vote you higher but it only goes to 5.

  • Thank you, I'm glad you liked the video. No, unfortunately, I've never lived in your great country ... but I have visited a number of times - the east, the central provinces and the west. I have driven across almost all of Canada and love it all - the cities, the plains, the lakes, the wide-open-spaces, the mountains - but most of all the people. There is no place in Canada that I wouldn't like to re-visit or discover anew. To my eye, it's one of the most beautiful places on earth, esp. Alberta.

  • isnt this the music from brokeback mountain?

    lol

  • Yes, it is. (it's listed in the video description) What do find "lol" about it?

  • Thank you! Your pictures have hit me hard, very hard.

  • I can relate, it hit me just as hard when there in person...breathtaking...so, so beautiful it's hard to describe. Hopefully these photos give an inkling.

  • Great pictures I grew up close to The Orion Alberta ones south of Etzikom. Was the one old cabin or ranch house taken north of Taber or Coaldale seems like ive wanted a pic of that myself. Have you ever saw the Sweetgrass hills from the north? Do you have relates near Orion or here in the south.Great work I hope people apreciate it as much as us. Keep it going.

  • @madeleine225 wehatch ya talkin bout?

  • Well next time you get up our way check out Grande Prairie. We got a really nice city here. MAJOR boom town too and good people, although some of them might seem a bit sketchy now and then.

  • Great clips. They capture so much of the essence, sense of place & history of Alberta.

I am not sure what madeleine225 means by UGLY and polluted. I have lived in Canada, BC & Alberta 30 years. I have also lived in New Zealand and the Philippines. Alberta is still the most beautiful place I have lived. Maybe one needs to get away and see some different parts of the world to make a proper comparison. I know I did. Try living in Jakarta or Manila for a year. I am glad to be coming home.
