Kitchener was a disgrace for allowing this to happen. Shameful.

@swanningaround Is that right? Well I can tell you know alot about history and are well informed about everything. You strike me as the typical Australian.

@engliscwarrior Interesting. He was probably about the only Englishman actually fighting. The only time when the English show courage is when they have a big victory, like the burning of Joan of Arc. Most of them were sipping champagne well behind the lines. Anyway, he fought for his Australian mates.

@a0e0roberts My guess is no one did. You'd know in an instant by the weight of the round whether it was a blank or a live round.

@andrewceg Yeah... but his first name was Horatio. Herbert was his middle name.

A great movie - and another reason why, at times, you can't trust the Poms.....(they later screwed us over in the Gallipoli campaign)....Harry "Breaker" Morant should have been pardoned, but the Poms needed to show the Boars that they were "just"....

Just sitting on the chairs, unbound, whilst everyone loads their guns. I'm sure this isn't completely accurate to how it was, but if it was like this, call me crazy, but I'd have up and ran for it. Fuck honour, I like life. Bushranging ftw.

the whole firing squad is just going to aim to the right...

@SuperCulloden Come on be fair - one out of eight were left behind, 41,000 troops fighting a rear guard action to allow British French and others to escape. They are now regarded as the heroes of Dunkirk, valiant men from the 51st Highland Division, The Black Watch, The Gordon Highlanders, The Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders and The Seaforth Highlanders and please remember there were many amongst them that were English like Gordon “Nobby” Barber, a Royal Horse Artillery signaller from London.
