English is taught as the first language of India and Hindi or Sanskrit is typically taught as the second language. But there are more than 2 dozens different languages spoken in India - not the monolithic country most Americans imagine.

  • Oriya is the language spoken in Orissa, and Maharashtra and Orissa are states belonging to the central India. We have a number of 2nd languages taught in our country other than Hindi and Sanskrit.

  • It is quite normal for kids in india to grow up speaking three languages or more.

I for instance, completely know 4 languages(I can not only speak but I can read and write in 4 languages.)!! NO LIES :)

    quite proud of this!!

  • They speak Oriya language in Orissa, not Marathi, as mentioned by the kids!!
