Amy Levin Quartet plays "Joe Moon", Jazz Vibes

Here's another tune from 15 year old vibes player, Amy Levin, from the same set as Boplicity. The tune is an original composition from guitarist Howard Stein entitled "Joe Moon". Once again, we tried to get an old sound, like the classic Rudy Van Gelder's Living Room Turn on the Tape Recorder sessions. Amy put together the montage of the great players she loves, on whose shoulders she knows she stands--that is, without them, there would be no her, musically, of course. Here is a rough order of the legends that appear in the montage: Lem Winchester, Milt Jackson, Red Norvo, Cannonball Adderley, Anita O'Day, Phil Woods, The Red Norvo Trio, Wes Montgomery, Gary Burton, and Barney Kessel. The actual non-ghosts in the room playing the music are Amy Levin on vibes, Howard Stein on guitar, David Tyberg on bass, and Peggy Benkeser on drums.

Oh, and a groovy tune, which even inspires an insipid pianist like me. That rhythm section reminds me of... Pettiford & Clarke? Diificult to say, but they're very good.

Very well done Amy, some very solid soloing over an interesting composition. Great montage too, although I'd rather watch a vid of you guys hitting it off with proud Dad 'n all.
