Unless we can increase non-petrochemically fertilised crop yields so they are at the same yield as petrochemically fertilised crop yields by using solar power or coal then humanity is fucked. The world could suffer extreme food shortages for 20 years or more, is it going to sit still and relax for decades whilst 75% of humanity have nothing to eat because we can only grow enough food for 1.5 billion and which little can be transported long distance?
Humanity is inflexible in regards to meals.

The bell curve is clearly an approximation. But it is not a completely unreasonable model for oil extraction.

right man! we are running into in a neverending recession...very hard years will start from 2013/15...be prepared....i am buying a little country house with a little field around, photovoltaic panels, wood heating system....

The bell shaped curve is a mathematical representation of a selected sampled population from which certain assumptions can be made about the whole population. It is not predictive in the sense that the measured peak and slope of the curve to peak does not represent a mirror image of future growth or decline. In a real world exponential growth rarely if ever matches decline rates.

do we have to accept high oil prices.?? i think we have to think about the fact that we probably don't need oil.. although we were all born in a "oil" society, that society came from a different kind of society. so i think we should try to envision a world (a diferent) kind of world....
