Years later I learned of Leeds United and began to deeply admire John's style. He was amazing. To know him is to pick him in your All-time 11 of British Football Players.

@GordonMorrice I first heard of John Charles in a VHS tape titled, "Brazil - the World Cup Story" back in 1990. The narrator pointed out that during the 1958 World Cup that Wales has been "weakened through absence of their world-famous Gentle Giant, John Charles, even so, Brazil only just managed to win, totally due to a precocious, unknown seventeen-year-old... Pele." That stuck with me.

My favorourite Welsh sportsman of all-time. I am Scottish by the way. He was the greatest European footballer of the 1950s. I entered this world in 1980, but I have watched, read and listened to the stories of the sport of kings from the old boys.
