http://www.b2review.com/how-to-grow-fruit-trees-from-seeds/ Today is February 16, 2011 and as you can see in the video, two lemon trees and two persimmon trees are growing from seeds. The lemon seeds I started in a plastic bag and a damp paper towel. In about two weeks a few of the 10 seeds I put in the bad had germinated. I transplanted these seeds into containers and after six months you can see the beginning of a small tree.

How To Grow Fruit Trees From Seeds
Remember, you will not be able to get any fruit for 6 months or longer and most likely will not see any fruit for at least three years. Since the genetic makeup is much more random than when you clone a tree, the tree may be shaped strangely or may never produce fruit at all.

This is simply a test to see if I can grow miniature fruit trees from seed and it works. The trick is to have many seeds (20 or more) to germinate before you begin and keep the soil moist for many years to come.

  • We are in "Zone 10" (Clay in California) and I do not believe the lemon trees will work as well there as they do here. Some suggestions that I have read about that may work very well for you are "Giant Oregon Garlic" or any fresh large garlic from the local market, raspberries, broccoli, and potatoes. If you can get these going I am sure anyone would love to trade for a lemon!

  • where do you live? im asking cause i live in edmonton canada, and i was just wondering if climate would effect the growth of lemon trees.

i just had a 5 lemon seeds sprout, and ive plante them in some soil.

(i have to add that, when i was waiting for the seeds to sprout, i kept them in a plastic container, with the seeds wrapped in some wet paper towel, which also kept it semi humid inside the container)

so, im wondering if maybe i should but a plastic bag over the pot i planted them in, or..
