Lets Recap!

But first a warning this is not a glossy Promo VideoLOL

I have wanted a Model Jet for over 20 years! I finally have realised my ambition.

Last year I purchased a Boomerang and P80 from Als Hobbies, but health and other family issues prevented me assembling it. So I purchased a 2nd hand Boomerang, Ex Als Sponsored Flyer model. This is the model in the film. I also purchased that last year around the time of the 2008 Nats. I couldnt pick it up (again health issues) but a modeler mate picked it up and dropped it off at my home.

Thanks to my Jet mate my P80 Model is ready to go ( test flight soon) and he also did the minor TLC on the second hand Boomerang to get it flying. Some covering needed renewing and the nose leg needed mending. He also set up the Jet with another Jet mate.

In fact without them I would never have got my Jet flying. Im 100% sure of that.

So thanks to them! some RC modelers can be so helpful when help is needed!

My Son Freddy (8 years old) enjoyed the jet, apart from the shooting it down noises you will hear, he also gets in on the act with sound effects. I think he was well behaved considering dad having to concentrate and not show him any attention for most of the evening. It was the 4th flight! He tries to get in on the act though! See the video.

There are some parts of the flight the missus missed as she was only using a compact camera to video and also theres a nice slow motion bit of what could have been a bird strikenot really, but it looks close. I cut out some bits of sky when the camera misses the plane. Also the auto focus has trouble keeping up with the plane on occasions and its only a Wren 44 not a larger Jet engine!

Most of the flying was done facing the Sun because of a No Fly Zone behind the pilot area and also cross wind, including the landing. Proves what an easy to fly aero plane the Boomerang is.

See the landing  on grass, the club strip. Needs rolling again I guessnot the plane the strip! This is flight 4 I think.

  • Hi

Im getting a boomerang nano and wondering what rc experience I should have. I have experience with IC powered models and the Nano looks like a good trainer.

    thanks and nice flying

  • Hi,

Flying a jet is great fun, I'd say if you are going to fly a Nano - you should be able to handle a low wing aeroplane without any problems. Jet flying is slightly different in one or two areas. It would help if you got a few pointers from some one with some jet experience - as a few wise words would save you any problems and some money! I was a very eperienced RC flyer before I tried jets and I still got help from some expereinced Jet modellers. They helped me start - good luck

  • Thanks, for the comment, its been a lifes ambition to get a jet, certian things made it look like it would never happen in the last 10 years - but it did! I've done it. Thanks
