What Do BC Students Know About Islam?

This video was put together for a lecture in March 2007 at Boston College. The video guages how much BC Students know about the Islamic faith. Some things may be surprising, others not, but the main intent of this video is to give an honest look at what students at a National University like BC know about Islam.

The Qur'ān’s 47:4 was cited in Muhammad Qasim’s slaughter of 6,000 to 16,000 in Brahminabad, India, in 712. Timur cited “enemies of Islam” in his 1398 massacre of 100,000 in Dehli.

WHEN did Islam become “of peace”? Islam is a cure for nothing imaginable. However bad non-Islam may be, Islam is just another disease. Indeed, it’s the worst one.

Bukhari 1:11:626 says "The Prophet said 'Burn all those who had not left their houses for the prayer, burning them alive inside their homes.'" Tabari’s Chronicles part 2, pp. 258, 272 reports first-caliph Abu Bakr saying "Call [apostates] to re-embrace Islam; if they refuse, do not spare any one of them. Burn them with fire and kill them with force and take the women and children as prisoners." Qur'ān 4:89 says "If they [converts] turn back [apostatize], then seize them and kill them wherever...

Note that Timur did what he did in the name of Islam. Learn Islam from Muslims? Would a Muslim ever tell you this story? HAD a Muslim ever told you?

BUT ISLAM’S HISTORY DOES NOT EMBARRASS MUSLIMS

I’m more than a little weary of Muslim ignorance and denial of Islam’s India campaign (not to mention the rest of Islam’s horrific history). That campaign, beginning in 711, continued for centuries. Timur (Tamerlane) himself recorded his exploits in his memoirs, in which he described the massacre at Delhi in 1399.

Islam and Muslims are an affront to human potential, a threat to human peace, an insult to women’s dignity, and a concern for humanity’s future. They’re all of smugly regressive, adamantly ignorant, fearfully superstitious, and groundlessly imperious. Muslims make war and smile “peace,” invent little and imagine they’re creative, assume much and suppose they’re thoughtful, and denounce mendacity while telling lies. Their assumption that they’re the best of people helps to make them the worst.

Perhaps the most fundamental of all human attributes is the freedom to choose. We move through life by choosing. If we cannot choose, we are not truly human

Why would anyone veer so far from respect for reality as to 1) believe in an entirely unprovable God, 2) accept Muhammad’s tale that he was a messenger from that God, 3) insist that Muhammad’s horror-ridden post-Hijra life had been perfect, 4) assert that Islam’s history of aggression makes it “of peace,” and 5) regard every jihādist incident as isolated from all others and the work of renegades?

Islam’s history has been of aggression and denial of, excuses for, and lies about that aggression.
